What Is a Supplemental Claim — and Why Does It Matter?

Here’s something a lot of customers don’t realize: the initial insurance estimate isn’t always the final word on what your repair will cost.

Insurance adjusters write their estimates based on what’s visible from the outside. Once our technicians begin the actual repair work, they sometimes uncover additional damage — bent framing, damaged wiring, parts that weren’t visible during the initial inspection. When that happens, we don’t just absorb the cost or cut corners to stay within the original number. We file what’s called a supplemental claim.

A supplemental claim is a request to the insurance company to cover the additional repair costs that weren’t included in the original estimate. It’s a standard part of the repair process in the collision industry, but it requires documentation, clear justification, and follow-through with the adjuster.
